FTIR & Raman vs. Nerve Agents and Fentanyl: Safe Practices, Outstanding Results

This content was developed for and delivered at the 2020 IAFC Hazmat Webinar and Virtual Hazmat Conference on behalf of Thermo Fisher Scientific:

Fact: Advanced operator knowledge and skills improve safety and operational success. Use this hands-on session to learn advanced Raman and FTIR techniques. Participants will manipulate and test surrogate samples to identify fentanyl, select chemical warfare agents and their analogs. Expert operators will coach small groups in tips, techniques and “secrets” using handheld Raman and FTIR analyzers and surrogate samples.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will work in teams using advanced, hands-on techniques and surrogate chemicals to practice safe field identification of nerve agents, fentanyl, and analogs.
  • Participants will observe or demonstrate sample manipulation that contribute to safety and eventual decontamination operations.
