Safe and Effective Explosives Detection Canine Operations

The Safe and Effective Explosives Detection Canine Operations workshop prepares canine handlers to safely continue once their canine partner indicates a potential explosive. Handlers learn what to do and what not to do for safe, continued response as an incident potentially escalates.

When your canine alerts for a potential explosive, use the Threat Assessment Rule of Five for safe, continued response and avoid costly mistakes.

The Safe and Effective Explosives Detection Canine Operations workshop provides handlers with practical information concerning:

  • IED components
  • IED effects
  • Threat analysis
  • Identification of suspicious packages, people, vehicles, and unmanned aerial systems (UAS/drones)
  • Decision making and navigating ambiguities
  • Response to explicit bomb threats
  • What to expect from a bomb squad response
  • How to support a bomb squad response

The half-day Safe and Effective Explosives Detection Canine Operations workshop includes ten tabletop exercises led by an FBI-certified bomb technician. Participants return to duty enabled with practical information and takeaway decision-making tools for improved safety and security.
